BRIEF PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The private sector economy is presently inadequate to match the around 15,000 new entrants to the labour market each year. There is therefore a need to help the private sector develop as a driver of growth to Timor. ADB’s Private sector operations and JICA have agreed to support Olam through a loan agreement. The idea being that the loan will help improve inclusive and sustainable agricultural value chains, directly benefiting up to 20,000 small holder farmers in Timor –Leste and also in Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Viet Nam.
The company Landell-Mills has been selected to implement this 2.5 years project in Timor-Leste through a Technical Assistance (TA including the above mentioned position). The TA generally aims at the specific outcomes:
Ø To increase the agricultural productivity and incomes of small-scale Coffee producers through inputs, knowledge, markets, and opportunities for value addition and non-farm employment.
Ø To ensure sustainable food production systems and implement resilient agricultural practices that increase productivity and production that help maintain ecosystems and that strengthen capacity for adaptation to climate change.
Ø To significantly increase the exports of Timor-Leste.
JOB DESCRIPTION: The trainee extension officer will work in collaboration with Landell-Mills Field Coordination team and receive hands-on training in coffee Good Agriculture Practices and have an opportunity to contact real life situations of Timor-Leste’s coffee plantations, its challenges and smart agriculture solutions for the improvement of yields and bean quality. As a core activity, trainees will be committed to collect baseline data and enrol coffee farmers on a company database – OFIS (Olam Field Information System). Activities will take place in the Municipalities of Ermera, Aileu and Liquica and candidates should be willing to live at these locations for the duration of the traineeship (expected from one to two months). Traineeship is expected to start in late September or early October.
KEY REQUIREMENTS: The candidate must have an agriculture background (University level desirable). The candidate should also have basic computer skills in accessing the internet (and preferably word and excel). Female candidates are highly encouraged to apply.
CONDITIONS: Trainees will receive a living allowance and transportation will be provided by the company.
